Arne Slot's first signing for Liverpool is surely going to be way better than Jurgen Klopp's – opinion

Arne Slot is Liverpool’s new manager.

The Dutchman has been hired to replace Jurgen Klopp at Anfield, and there’s an element of excitement around what the former Feyenoord manager is going to bring to Merseyside.

New tactics and a new style at Liverpool will come in time, butSlot’s first port of call may be to make new signings.

Indeed, the transfer window is upon us, and this is Slot’s chance to stamp his authority on this Liverpool squad.

A first signing by a new manager is almost as important as a first impression or a first result, and while Slot has big shoes to fill at Liverpool, he may not find it difficult to make a better first signing than Jurgen Klopp did at Anfield.

Jurgen Klopp’s first Liverpool signing

Jurgen Klopp made some amazing signings at Liverpool.

Mohamed Salah, Alisson Becker, Andy Robertson and Virgil van Dijk were all incredible signings by the German that propelled Liverpool to the next level.

However, his first signing on Merseyside was perhaps one of his biggest failures.

Cast your mind back to January 2016, Klopp’s first transfer window at the club, and you may remember that the German’s first signing was Marko Grujic from Red Star Belgrade.

Grujic would join Liverpool for£5m as a teenager, but he would go on to play just eight league games for the club before leaving for Porto.

All in all, this wasn’t a successful signing, and it won’t be hard for Slot to top this one.

Arne Slot’s first Liverpool signing

Of course, we have no idea who Slot’s first signing for Liverpool will be just yet, but with the likes of Goncalo Inacio, Santiago Gimenez, Crysencio Summerville and many others linked, the Dutchman could land a star with his first foray into the market.

Realistically, Slot doesn’t need to sign a star to make sure his first signing at Anfield is better than Klopp’s but, based on the noises coming out of Anfield, Slot’s first addition to this squad could be a key signing to take the Reds forward.

Liverpool are set for an exciting summer transfer window under their new manager, that’s for sure.
