‘Put off’: Arsenal have stopped trying to sign £15m player, they don’t think he’s gettable - journalist

Arsenal have been linked with a number of midfield players heading into this summer transfer window.

The Gunners have looked at the likes of Bruno Guimaraes and Martin Zubimendi, while Douglas Luiz is a player who has been linked, on and off, for a long time now.

Speaking on the Ranks FC Ultras Podcast, Dean Jones has been discussing Luiz’s future at Aston Villa, and he says that he can’t see the midfielder leaving, despite recent links to Juventus.

According to Jones, Arsenal have been put off the scent when it comes to pursuing Luiz, claiming that he isn’t seen as gettable by the Gunners at the moment.

Arsenal put off Douglas Luiz

Jones spoke about the £15m man and how Arsenal feel about the Aston Villa star.

“I can’t see Aston Villa letting Douglas Luiz go, and it doesn’t look good if Luiz goes to Juve and Aston Villa end up with McKennie when they’re heading into the Champions League.

“Arsenal sniffed around Luiz and they were put off the scent. It seemed he wouldn’t be gettable and it seemed he would be signing a new contract, but that hasn’t happened.”

Aston Villa won’t want to sell

Arsenal feel as though Luiz isn’t attainable this summer, and it’s not hard to understand why.

For the first time in a long time, Aston Villa are in a strong position where they can push on and challenge for major honours.

The Villans are back in the Champions League, and, make no mistake about it, they’ll want to have a real go at having a run in Europe next season.

Of course, it won’t be easy for Villa to make this run at the Champions League, but it will be a lot harder if they sell Luiz heading into next season.

It would take a remarkable offer for Villa to sell such an important player ahead of such a key season.
