Aston Villa could now lose ‘outstanding’ star in surprise swap deal that would aid PSR woes

Aston Villa could see their PSR concerns aided sooner than expected this summer, as one European club is eyeing a key player from Villa Park.

The summer transfer window will be important for Aston Villa to strengthen their squad ahead of Champions League involvement.

While Unai Emery and Monchi will hope to welcome new faces to Villa Park, the club will be wary of Profit and Sustainability Rules (PSR).

As well as arrivals, departures will play a big part in Villa’s stance in the transfer window, with one star now eyed by a Serie A club.

Juventus want to sign Douglas Luiz from Aston Villa this summer

Gianluca Di Marzio has now reported that Juventus are interested in signing Douglas Luiz this summer.

The Sky Sports journalist shared his understanding that the Bianconeri are ‘aiming for an exchange’ with Villa in return for Weston McKennie, a wish that is ‘complicated’.

Fellow Sky Sports reporter Lyall Thomas added that Juventus are preparing to ‘push hard’ to try and sign the Brazilian, despite money being ‘tight’ in Turin.

Villa are claimed to want a fee in the region of £60m for Luiz, which could prove to be difficult for Juventus however, their interest isn’t necessarily bad news for those at Villa Park.

Luiz interest could be a relief for Villa

While it seems unlikely that Juventus will be able to pay Villa their desired fee for Luiz, the Serie A giants’ interest could open a door for the Villans.

With Juve wanting to ‘push’ for the 25-year-old, Emery and Monchi could lure the Italian club to present a reasonable price for the midfielder.

It’s integral that the Villans ease their PSR concerns early this summer, particularly if they want to do business in the window.

The Athletic reported that Villa could be in a sell-to-buy situation in the upcoming transfer window, making interest in one of their most valuable assets a positive.

Of course, the priority would be to retain the Brazilian, as Luiz was lauded as ‘outstanding’ for his form last season, being an integral part of Emery’s squad.

That being said, the former Manchester City man has also been described as one of the most replaceable players in the squad, with midfielders of his capability easier to find than other figures Villa could sell to generate profit.

What isn’t flattering is Juventus’ hope to offer McKennie as part of the deal, as the former Leeds United loanee failed to impress in his Premier League audition in 2022/23.

Luiz’s form may have dipped in the latter stages of the campaign however, he is one of Emery’s most crucial players, but the idea of a player swap isn’t all bad.

Alternatively, capturing McKennie would not be detrimental to Villa’s pledge to balance the books, as the United States international is a lower earner than Luiz, according to Capology.

Based on the two players’ current wage demands, Villa could save an estimated £1.1m-per-year as part of the player swap although, receiving a considerable fee would be more desirable and beneficial.

In the instance that Juventus could offer a fee in the region of Villa’s asking price, the Midlands club’s financial woes could be aided significantly, with interest certainly something to track.
