'Amazing': Kieran Trippier was blown away by what Newcastle United fans did last night

Kieran Trippier has paid tribute to the Newcastle United fans following England’s visit to St James’ Park.

The Three Lions were on Tyneside on Monday night, as Kieran Trippier captained his country to a 3-0 friendly win over Bosnia And Herzegovina.

It was a special night for the 33-year-old, as it always is when you captain your country. But he got to do it at his domestic stadium of St James’ Park, while he was joined on the pitch by his son, who was mascot for the evening.

Overall, it was a pretty good night for Gareth Southgate’s side. It was a typical friendly performance, but there were some bright performances from the likes of Eberechi Eze and Adam Wharton, both of which are hoping to be included in the final 26-man squad.

Wor Flags welcome England to St James’ Park

But the night started with a brilliant display from Wor Flags, who took their domestic displays to the international stage.

As the players emerged from the tunnel, the East Stand became the St George’s cross, while the Gallowgate paid tribute to Baddiel and Skinner’s Euro 96 anthem Three Lions as tournament fever grips the nation.

A banner displayed the lyric ‘I know that was then but it could be again’, while there was also an England crest surfer. On top of that, the cards in the Gallowgate made out an old England jersey, as Gareth Southgate’s players got a proper Wor Flags welcome.

Kieran Trippier grateful for Wor Flags’ work

It was a special display, and Kieran Trippier has thanked Wor Flags for their efforts during an interview with NUFC TV.

“I’ve had a few good chats with them [Wor Flags],” he said.

“They had an amazing display. Full credit to them because they work extremely hard. They work so many hours to put the displays on for club and country. Yeah, special mention to them.”

Wor Flags certainly deserve a special mention, as they cap off what has been an incredible season. Their displays have been amazing, and they have often had to bring them to life in such a short period of time.

The work they did during the Champions League was sensational, helping make those special moments even more memorable.

Now they have helped the England national team, on what was their first visit to St James’ Park since 2005. Hopefully it is not another 19 years before they return!
