Report: After Enzo Maresca said no to Victor Osimhen, Chelsea want to sign 2023/24 Golden Boot winner instead

Chelsea now want to sign a Golden Boot winner – after Enzo Maresca decided against a move for Napoli No.9 Victor Osimhen.

The Italian does not want the Nigeria international at Stamford Bridge this summer as he aims to bring a different striker to Chelsea – according to Tutto Mercato.

Now – according to a fresh update – Enzo Maresca has identified a forward he wants Chelsea to sign…

Chelsea want Artem Dovbyk

A story by Football Transfers now claims that Chelsea want to sign Girona No.9 Artem Dovbyk.

The Ukraine international just enjoyed a remarkable 2023/24 campaign with the Spanish side, scoring 24 goals across 36 appearances in La Liga to help Girona finish third and secure a UEFA Champions League spot.

Dovbyk also impressively registered eight assists as he won La Liga’s Golden Boot.

Now, Chelsea want to bring the Ukrainian to Stamford Bridge after deciding to end their long-term pursuit of Osimhen.

Football Transfers believe Dovbyk can be signed for €40m (£34m) thanks to a release clause in his contract.

That fact alone makes the 26-year-old a far more attractive option than Osimhen, who has a €120m (£102m) release clause in his contract at Napoli, which the Italian giants want paid in full.

Ukrainian could help Mykhailo Mudryk

Interestingly, Football Transfers add that Chelsea also want to sign Dovbyk to help Mykhailo Mudryk in west London.

The pair have already made 17 appearances alongside each other for Ukraine, combining to create one goal while losing just three of these outings, so they have enjoyed some success together in attack.

Mudryk has struggled at Stamford Bridge, scoring just seven goals in 58 appearances so far following his £88.5m move from Shakhtar Donetsk in January 2023.

In fairness to the Chelsea No.10, things have been far from settled in that space of time.

Mudryk has been coached by three different managers in Graham Potter, Frank Lampard and Mauricio Pochettino, while the Blues haven’t really settled on a concrete attack for the Ukrainian to familiarise himself with.

Therefore, a move to sign Dovbyk will hopefully help the Chelsea No.10 blossom in west London.
