£26m winger once compared to Gareth Bale could now snub Tottenham Hotspur move

Tottenham Hotspur are expected to be busy this summer as Ange Postecoglou seeks to improve on a fifth-place finish in his debut season.

A great start, an up-and-down middle and a disappointing end; Ange Postecoglou’s first season at Tottenham Hotspur was a rollercoaster.

Cavalier football, dramatic late goals and some questionable defending; fans have seen it all at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium this past season.

Fifth place wasn’t a bad finish for Tottenham but the Spurs boss is looking for much more moving forward.

Postecoglou has already admitted that he plans to sell a number of players and that would surely lead to incomings deals too.

With Lucas Bergvall and Timo Werner already secured, Tottenham can now look at other signings – but one target looks a little tricky to land.

Viktor Tsygankov stance on Tottenham Hotspur

Tottenham splashed big money on a winger last summer, landing Brennan Johnson from Nottingham Forest.

Werner has mostly played as a left winger too whilst Manor Solomon has spent most of his Tottenham career on the sidelines.

That may leave Tottenham to consider another winger, especially with Dejan Kulusevski potentially moving into a more central role.

A new target has now emerged for Tottenham, fitting a similar mould to Kulusevski in terms of being a left-footed, right-sided winger.

Spanish newspaper AS report that Tottenham want to sign Girona winger Viktor Tsygankov.

The problem for Spurs is that Tsygankov wants to play in the Champions League; Tottenham can only offer the Europa League.

Girona’s exceptional season in La Liga means Tsygankov can play in Europe’s premier competition without even leaving the club.

Any suitor would have to offer the same opportunity and Tottenham – sadly – don’t have Champions League football on offer.

Tsygankov has a release clause worth just €30million (£26million) but there are approaches on the table from AC Milan and even Arsenal.

That means Tottenham may not only miss out on Tsygankov, but could see him lining up against Spurs in North London derbies.

Who is Spurs target Tsygankov?

Tsygankov broke through with Dynamo Kyiv in his native Ukraine, racking up an impressive record of 94 goals and 64 assists in 236 appearances.

The 26-year-old left Dynamo for Girona in January 2023 and he has impressed in La Liga ever since.

Tsygankov has now racked up 11 goals and 13 assists in 53 games, including eight goals and seven assists this past season.

Back in 2016, Tsygankov was tabbed as a ‘young Gareth Bale’, the kind of comparison which would certainly excite Tottenham fans.

Tsygankov hasn’t hit the same heights as Bale but he has pace and a great left foot, so we can somewhat understand those early comparisons.

Yet unless Tottenham can convince Tsygankov to give up Champions League football for next season, he won’t be following in Bale’s footsteps with a move to Spurs.
