Ange Postecoglou wants to keep ‘sensational’ Tottenham Hotspur player, ‘massive’ bid needed

Tottenham Hotspur fans can expect major changes this summer as Ange Postecoglou heads towards his third transfer window at the club.

Ange Postecoglou’s first season in charge of Tottenham Hotspur ended in a fifth place finish and subsequent Europa League qualification.

That is progress from the chaotic end to last season, but Postecoglou certainly won’t be ready to settle.

The Spurs boss has already admitted that he plans to offload a number of players this summer, with fans expecting plenty of signings to come in.

Lucas Bergvall and Timo Werner are already on board and many players are being linked with moves to the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

A list of around 15 players emerged earlier in May, which was seemingly a collection of players Tottenham would be willing to sell.

First-team players such as Richarlison and Yves Bissouma were mentioned alongside unwanted loanees Tanguy Ndombele and Sergio Reguilon.

Tottenham Hotspur stance on Rodrigo Bentancur

Rodrigo Bentancur was not on that list but some may have wondered about his future at Tottenham.

The 26-year-old came back from injury this past season and started 13 Premier League games, coming off the bench 10 times too.

Bentancur cut a rather angry figure after being substituted against Manchester City and fans would have been forgiven for thinking that he could leave this summer.

However, the London Evening Standard claim that Postecoglou wants to keep Bentancur.

It’s added that only a ‘massive offer’ would tempt Tottenham into selling Bentancur this summer and there are no plans to make him available.

Snapped up from Juventus in January 2022, Bentancur was really shining in the 2022-23 season before being struck down with injury.

Bentancur spent more than six months out of action but is now back fit and firing, ready for a full pre-season under Postecoglou.

Hailed as a ‘sensational’ player by former Spurs man Stephen Kelly, Bentancur must now really kick on and prove Postecoglou right for wanting to keep him.

Bentancur needs time to shine

Tottenham fans were so excited about Bentancur’s return but may have been al little disappointed with the results.

Bentancur showed his quality in flashes but also struggled at times as he attempted to get back to his best after a long lay-off.

It’s easy to forget that Bentancur suffered another injury shortly after coming back to action, so that stop-start return can’t have helped.

Playing for Uruguay at Copa America could help Bentancur’s sharpness before getting down to pre-season business with Tottenham.

We would anticipate seeing a much better Bentancur next season and Postecoglou seems to know that too.

The Australian doesn’t want to see Bentancur leave unless huge money comes in and he should play a vital role in Tottenham’s midfield moving forward.
