The date for the Alabama-Illinois basketball matchup in Birmingham now has a date.
The Crimson Tide will face Illinois on Wednesday, Nov. 20, at Legacy Arena, BamaOnLine has learned. Jeff Goodman of Field of 68 first reported the news. The non-conference game falls between Alabama’s trip to Purdue and its three Players Era Festival contests in Las Vegas.
The matchup will be the first of two as part of a pseudo-home-and-home series. Alabama would make a return trip to Illinois to play the Illini in Chicago’s United Center in 2025.
Illinois finished the 2023-24 season with a 29-9 (14-6 Big Ten) record. After winning the Big Ten Tournament, the Illini earned a No. 2 seed in the NCAA Tournament and advanced to the Elite Eight before losing to eventual national champion UConn, 77-52, in Boston.
Alabama was scheduled to play Arizona in Birmingham this year, part of a two-year series with the Wildcats, but that matchup is no longer on the Crimson Tide’s 2024-25 schedule.
Alabama’s non-conference slate is now nearly complete. The Tide is only missing three games, which are likely “buy” games, and which team it will face in the ACC/SEC Challenge. Last year, UA faced Clemson in Tuscaloosa, so this year’s matchup will be on the road.
