Report: Liverpool think Saudi clubs will bid for their 'exceptional' English player this summer

Liverpool are expecting offers from clubs in Saudi Arabia for one of their English players this summer.

Arne Slot has arrived as the new Reds boss, and he has some big shoes to fill. The Dutchman has been tasked to follow Jurgen Klopp at Anfield, and that will be extremely difficult.

There will be some movement once the summer transfer window opens, with respect to both incomings and outgoings. Liverpool think they will receive offers for one player in particular.

Liverpool expecting Saudi offers for Joe Gomez

When you think about Liverpool and Saudi Arabia, the first that will spring to mind is Mohamed Salah.

The Egyptian has been heavily linked with a move to the Middle East for over a year. Salah has been one of the Saudi Pro League’s top targets, and it would be their dream to sign him.

Liverpool held onto the winger in the 2023 summer transfer window, but the likes of Jordan Henderson, Fabinho and Roberto Firmino moved to Saudi Arabia.

It will be interesting to see what will happen with Salah once the window opens, but Liverpool think another one of their players will receive offers from Saudi Arabia – Joe Gomez.

The Daily Mail reveal that the Reds expect bids to come in for the England defender, who had a terrific 2023/24 season for the club.

Klopp even branded him as ‘exceptional’ and a ‘life-saver’ after seeing how well he filled in when other players were unavailable (Liverpool’s official website).

Liverpool are expecting offers for Gomez, but whether they will entertain them remains to be seen.

Only one thing should convince Liverpool to sell Gomez

Before the start of the 2023/24 season, if Liverpool fans were asked about Gomez, many would’ve probably been ready to let him go.

However, after the kind of season he has just had and how massively he has developed, the Reds should keep hold of him.

Gomez played across the backline for the Reds and showed he can be excellent in all of those positions. He was arguably Liverpool’s best left-back in the recently-concluded season.

The only thing that should convince Liverpool to sell Gomez this summer is a massive offer, one they simply cannot refuse.

Unless that arrives, keeping him would be the best option.
