Car’s driver, passenger die in crash at N.J. intersection, police say

The driver and passenger of car were killed after they were involved in a crash at a Vineland intersection Tuesday morning, police said.

Officers were called to the intersection of Union and Mays Landing Road at 11:09 a.m. and found three people injured, two of whom suffered life-threatening injuries, according to a release from the Vineland Police Department.

Investigators said a 2024 Ford F-250 pickup truck being driven by an 81-year-old Millville man was traveling west on Mays Landing Road toward the intersection. A 2010 Toyota Yaris being driven by John A. Mahoney, 23, of Sewell, crossed into the pickup’s path when it failed to stop, the department said. The pickup truck and Toyota, which was also occupied by a Patrick J. Mahoney, 23, of Sewell, then crashed.

John and Patrick Mahoney were later pronounced dead at the scene, authorities said.

It was unclear how the Mahoneys were related.

The driver of the pickup truck was airlifted to Cooper University Hospital for precautionary reasons and was listed in stable condition, police said.

No charges were filed as of 4 p.m., police said. The crash was still under investigation.

Anyone with information was asked to contact the department’s traffic safety unit at 856-691-4111 x4698.
