Linked-away star Edson Alvarez drops big hint over his West Ham future

Linked-away star Edson Alvarez has dropped a big hint over his West Ham future in a social media post overnight.

It wasn’t only West Ham’s season as a football club that ended on a sour note with just five wins in 25 games in the second half of the season.

Edson Alvarez had established himself as one of West Ham’s most fundamentally important players.

When he didn’t play, the Hammers didn’t win – it was that simple.

But the Mexican found himself dropped and out of the side since being substituted during half-time of a 5-0 defeat at Chelsea.

West Ham beat off competition from some top clubs to sign Alvarez for £34m from Ajax.

The fan favourite has himself admitted he came close to joining both Chelsea and Borussia Dortmund before signing for West Ham.

Alvarez linked with move away after one season

Alvarez has only been at West Ham for 10 months. But in the occasional interview away from West Ham’s in-house media, there has been a worrying theme developing.

Back in October, Alvarez stated he is ‘always open’ to a move after links to Bayern. And he went on to say: “I want to play and show the people my best qualities. But in the summer, you never know what‘s going on.”

Other outlets such as Caught Offside have reported recently that West Ham are concerned Alvarez could push to leave if the club did not qualify for Europe.

West Ham will not play in Europe next season for the first time in four years. So that is a very real cause for serious concern among Hammers fans.

But linked-away star Alvarez has dropped a big hint over his West Ham future.

Alvarez drops big hint over his West Ham future

Because the midfield maestro from Mexico has taken to social media and appears to have set the table for another season at West Ham.

Alvarez wrote “hungry for more?” to fans alongside a video of some of his best moments for West Ham and Mexico last season.

This is hardly the kind of post a player randomly puts out on social media in the off-season if they’re looking to leave.

Let’s hope new head coach Julen Lopetegui appreciates Alvarez more than David Moyes did by the end of his tenure.

It comes after Alvarez also appeared to commit his future to West Hm when speaking to the club’s official website back in April.

The Mexico star, nicknamed ‘lionheart’ at Ajax, suggested he will be here next season.

He said he has loved his “first season in England” suggesting there will be a second.

Hammers must build team around Mexican maestro

“I’ve loved my first season in England, and I’ve learnt so much,” he said.

“I think there’s a lot I can improve, so I’m looking forward to getting better and better, but for now I just want to help the team finish as high in the table as possible.”

West Ham could not get hold of the ball in the away leg of their tie at Bayer Leverkusen with Alvarez suspended. And they lost 2-0.

But Leverkusen boss Xabi Alonso picked out Alvarez as West Ham’s most fundamental player after he shone in the second leg and almost helped West Ham turn the tie around.

The Spaniard suggested West Ham must build the team around Alvarez.

Let’s hope Lopetegui and Tim Steidten do exactly that this summer.
