"I know": Alan Pardew now shares what people at Crystal Palace have told him about Adam Wharton

Alan Pardew has now shared what people inside Crystal Palace have told him about Adam Wharton.

The Crystal Palace No.20 is in the spotlight once again after making his debut for England on Monday night during a 3-0 win over Bosnia and Herzegovina.

Impressively, the £22m man completed all 36 of his attempted passes at St James’ Park – becoming the first player to do so on his debut for England since records began.

So, what has Pardew now said about Adam Wharton? Let’s take a look…

What Alan Pardew said about Adam Wharton

The man who oversaw 87 games as Crystal Palace manager was very impressed by what he saw from the 20-year-old on Monday night, and also revealed that those at Selhurst Park are delighted by the January arrival’s efforts.

Pardew told talkSPORT: “He played a great little cameo last night. I mean, his left foot cross was a highlight for me where we should have scored, because I think we are lacking that left foot delivery from that side of the pitch. That was a nice moment.

“He reminds me a little bit of Michael Carrick. He is very economical with everything that he does and goes unnoticed a little bit. He can move the ball, his passing is crisp, you are not waiting for it, it is coming to you with the right pace, and that is an art.

“I know lots of people at Palace, and they are all very impressed with him. Not only that, his ball-winning skills, his defensive work is sound, so, you know, he has got a bright future. For me, personally, this tournament is too early, but he might just get in there because we are kind of lacking cover in that area.”

Crystal Palace No.20 now has a genuine chance of going to UEFA EURO 2024

When Gareth Southgate named Wharton in his provisional squad for UEFA EURO 2024 – which must be cut by seven players by Friday 7th June – it initially felt like more of a reward for his stunning end to the 2023/24 campaign, rather than him having a genuine shot of going to the tournament.

We do not say that in regards to his talent, but mainly due to the fact the man from Blackburn had only ever made one appearance for the England U21 side prior to his senior call up – so UEFA EURO 2024 seemed far too early.

Now – however – after Wharton shone on his debut for the Three Lions, offering a level of composure and progressive passing we rarely see from an England midfielder, Southgate may well put him on that plane to Germany.
