Aston Villa could lose Jhon Duran this summer

Last month, Aston Villa were warned that Jhon Duran could leave the club, with links now materialising as time passes.

In January, the Colombian was linked with a move to Chelsea and such rumours have resurfaced again this summer.

The Athletic reported Villa’s interest in Conor Gallagher this week, adding that Duran could go the other way.

Journalist David Ornstein detailed that the Blues ‘retain a strong interest’ in the 20-year-old, who is ‘among the candidates’ to bolster Chelsea’s front line this summer.

Sporting a scoring frequency of only 101 minutes in the 2023/24 Premier League, via Sofascore, Duran is a reliable alternative to Ollie Watkins, and a player Villa must replace if he is to depart.

Three players Villa could target to replace Duran

Paulo Dybala – Roma

World Cup winner Paulo Dybala could be one candidate to take the reins from Duran this summer, with his transfer stance now made clear.

Sky Sports reporter Dharmesh Sheth relayed that the Roma star is ‘open to’ a Premier League move this summer.

Remarkably, the Argentine has a release clause of just £10.2m in his current contract, which is valid until July 31st, giving Villa some incentive to consider a move.

Having contributed to 26 goals in only 39 appearances over the 2023/24 campaign, via Transfermarkt, the 30-year-old could be the ideal alternative to Ollie Watkins in place of Duran.

Sebastien Haller – Borussia Dortmund

Borussia Dortmund’s interest in Bundesliga talisman Serhou Guirassy is heating up, according to Fabrizio Romano.

The German club’s interest could see current forward Sebastien Haller look for a new home this summer, with the former West Ham player being a goalscorer Villa should eyeball.

Though the 29-year-old failed to make an impact with the Hammers, his experience at top level and in the Champions League should tempt Villa.

Haller has 14 goal contributions in 14 Champions League appearances throughout his career, as per Transfermarkt, telling of how efficient of a back up he could be to Emery’s front line.

Ayoub El Kaabi – Olympiacos

Finally, a name Villa are aware of is Ayoub El Kaabi, who showed his prolific edge for Olympiacos last season.

The Moroccan striker dealt Villa a hammer-blow in the Europa Conference League semi-final, scoring five goals over the two legs against Emery’s side.

The 30-year-old scored 18 league goals for Olympiacos over 2023/24, via Sofascore, and his Conference League antics could lure the Villans to consider him as an appropriate alternative up front.
