Head coach Will Bolt saw his Nebraska Cornhuskers baseball team end their season at the Stillwater Regional. With that, the career of pitcher Kyle Perry finally came to an end.
After being eliminated, Bolt shared his thoughts on Perry and Perry’s college career, praising him for everything he gave to the program during his time there.

“It’s pretty special,” Will Bolt said. “KP poured all of his guts into Husker baseball, and he had time to step away from the game and step away from the program. Especially in a day and age where it’s easy to kind of move on or do something else or just say I wanna go to work or whatever, KP just loves the Huskers and he loves his teammates.”
Kyle Perry began his career at Nebraska in 2018 and he would end up being with the Cornhuskers for six seasons in total. During that time, he pitched 113.1 innings over 68 appearances and 18 starts. A native of Omaha, Perry struggled with injuries, especially later in his career and lost time in both 2021 and 2022.
This season was a good one for Nebraska, winning the Big Ten Tournament. With that, Bolt led the Cornhuskers to their first NCAA Tournament since 2021.
“So, I’m glad that he came back for another year and got to hoist a trophy and be a part of a dog pile because I know he’s been hungry for that. He was a part of the ’21 team and a big part of that Regional as well for us that year,” Bolt said.
“Lot of injuries, but the kid has got a lot of fight, a lot of heart, and a lot of character. Petty indicative of how this team was.”

Ultimately, Nebraska came up short in the NCAA Regionals. Despite that, Will Bolt still firmly believes that this year’s team is a group of winners.
“These guys are winners; that’s what I told them. They won in every area of their lives this year. In the classroom [with] one of the highest team GPAs we’ve ever had in Nebraska. They punched the clock every single day with everything that they do, and we won a championship the hard way. When a lot of people counted us out and said we couldn’t do it, we went ahead and did it anyway,” Bolt said.
“We fell short of where we wanted to end up. I felt like we had a team strong enough to play into next week. But if you look at across the country, everybody’s good, and there’s a lot of teams that hosted Regionals that are no longer playing; a lot of really good teams that aren’t gonna get to win their last game.”
