President Volodymyr Zelenskyy arrived in Qatar on Wednesday, April 5, for talks with Emir Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, according to the President's Telegram channel.

“Qatar is helping Ukraine to return children abducted by Russia. We will discuss the continuation of this work both within the framework of the International Coalition for the Return of Ukrainian Children and at the Peace Summit, where it is on the agenda,” Zelenskyy wrote.

He also noted that Qatar actively participated in the preparation of the Peace Summit and should become one of the voices of the Middle East on the return of people home.

In addition, Zelenskyy and the Emir of Qatar are to discuss a number of bilateral economic and security issues.

Qatar's position on the war

Qatar takes a neutral position on the war in Ukraine. Despite this, Qatar has not openly condemned Russian aggression against Ukraine.

Earlier this year, President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy and Emir of Qatar Tamim bin Hamad al-Thani had a telephone conversation. They discussed Qatar's mediation role and the Sheikh's personal position on the return of Ukrainian children illegally deported by Russia.

Earlier, RBC-Ukraine reported that the Russian Federation told Qatari representatives that it was ready to return another group of children to Ukraine.
