Report: Wolves told to pay 'far in excess' of £20m if they want to sign 'outstanding' star this summer

A journalist has now shared how much money Liverpool would be looking for to sell Caoimhín Kelleher, amid speculation linking him to Wolves.

It was reported earlier this week that Wanderers could move for the Reds number two, with Jose Sa potentially on his way out of Molineux.

Sa was linked with a move to Saudi Arabia earlier in the season. And recently, it has been suggested he is now ready to depart, with the agent Jorge Mendes currently sounding out interest.

Sa has been at Wolves for three seasons and is 31 now. That is by no means ‘old’ for a goalkeeper, but he may well fancy a fresh and final move at this stage of his career.

Kelleher is a potential option for Wolves – and one journalist now has word of an approximate asking price from Liverpool…

Journalist David Lynch has reported via This is Anfield that Liverpool would be looking for an offer ‘far in excess’ of £20 million if they are to sell Kelleher this summer.

He may be a number two, but Kelleher has definitely impressed when called upon by the Reds, and could very easily be a number one at many other clubs.

Kelleher has opened the door to an exit from the club.

But Liverpool’s asking price is fairly significant, as good as Kelleher is.

But given he is expected to attract a fair bit of attention this summer, there is a reasonable chance of him going for that much.

Kelleher was in action for the Republic of Ireland on Tuesday night, and showed exactly why there is likely to be several clubs sniffing around him this summer.

The Irish Independent handed him a 7/10 rating for his performance in the 2-1 win over Hungary, and said of him: “Denied Milos Kerkez with an early save but had no chance when Adam Lang was left unmarked to score. Produced two superb stops in quick succession to prevent second-half goals.”

Wolves need to address other positions first

Realistically Wolves need to be focusing on other positions before the goalkeeper this summer.

While there are apparently reservations about Sa and his ball-playing, it cannot be denied that he finished the 2023/24 season in good form, and has helped Wolves win a lot of Premier League points since he’s been at the club.

He is a proven Premier League goalkeeper, with Jurgen Klopp having hailed him as ‘outstanding’. Yes, he can have his moments of madness. But he offsets those with some brilliant saves.

Sure, if a big offer for Sa came in then Wolves would need to think about accepting.

But for now, the focus needs to be on signing a new striker and another centre-half.

If it comes to it, Kelleher would be a great replacement for Sa. However, anything over £20 million could be seen as a little steep and Wolves would want to negotiate down.
