Report: Leeds could now sign player with 39 Championship goals for free after talks collapse

Leeds could now sign a player who boasts plenty of Championship experience – and on a free transfer.

Daniel Farke has a task on his hands to lift spirits around Elland Road and regenerate enthusiasm for the 2024/25 campaign, as the Whites embark on a second shot at promotion after losing the Championship Play-Off Final to Southampton.

There are doubts over the futures of several players – mainly Crysencio Summerville – and Leeds could now secure a free transfer to ensure the attacking department remains strong in the event of any departures…

Leeds eye Bobby De Cordova-Reid

A story from TEAMtalk now states that Leeds could sign Bobby De Cordova-Reid on a free transfer.

The Jamaica international was in discussions with Fulham about extending his contract at Craven Cottage – where he has played since initially joining on loan from Cardiff in August 2019.

However, talks over a new two-year deal have broken down, and TEAMtalk believe De Cordova-Reid is now set to part ways with the Cottagers.

TEAMtalk add that Leeds are keen to sign the 31-year-old after Jaidon Anthony returned to Bournemouth upon the expiry of his loan spell, while the Whites are expected to be forced into selling Summerville and Wilfried Gnonto.

De Cordova-Reid impressed for Fulham in the 2023/24 campaign with seven goals and four assists in 41 appearances across all competitions.

The man from Bristol can operate anywhere across the frontline, and is also able to play at right-back if need be.

TBR Football understand that Everton are also keen to snap De Cordova-Reid up on a free transfer.

Experience could help Daniel Farke

As far as free agents go,De Cordova-Reid is a very attractive option for Championship clubs this summer.

The Fulham No.14 boasts a tremendous amount of experience in England’s second tier, making a total of 192 appearances in the Championship – scoring 39 goals while also providing 22 assists.

Of course, De Cordova-Reid’s potential arrival would not be enough to ease the pain of losing a star such as Summerville or Gnonto, but in a difficult market financially, it would be a very sensible summer deal.
