Report: 'Fantastic' Tottenham player is surplus to requirements under Ange Postecoglou

Tottenham Hotspur are likely to be busy in the transfer market over the coming months, both in terms of incomings and outgoings.

Spurs boss Ange Postecoglou has laid some solid foundations in his maiden season at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium and he’ll be eager to build on them.

Likewise, Spurs have a number of players on their books who appear to be surplus to requirements going forward.

The Athletic have now spoken about a Tottenham player who was previously a first-teamer but doesn’t seem to have a future under Postecoglou.

The player in question is defender Sergio Reguilon, who spent the vast majority of last season away from Spurs on loan.

Reguilon spent the first half of the 2023/24 campaign at Manchester United before returning to N17 and going out to Brentford until the end of the season.

According to The Athletic, the 27-year-old ‘finds himself surplus to requirements for the third summer in a row.’

The report also rules out the prospect of Brentford signing Reguilon on a permanent basis.

Apparently, ‘his wage demands mean a permanent switch is not possible and he needs to look elsewhere.’

Sergio Reguilon unlikely to be at Tottenham long-term

Reguilon is a ‘fantastic‘ player capable of making an ‘incredible‘ impact in games, but sadly he hasn’t quite been able to make his mark at Tottenham.

You don’t get the likes of Atletico Madrid, Man United and Brentford coming after you and signing you on loan if you’re not brilliant.

However, it just doesn’t look as though his future is at Spurs. With that in mind, a permanent move away would be the best thing for all parties.
