Report: Bayern Munich may be willing to pay the release clause to sign 'hugely talented' Chelsea player

Bayern Munich may be willing to pay the full release clause to sign a Chelsea player this summer.

There’s been a few players to represent both Chelsea and Bayern Munich over the years, most notably Michael Ballack and Arjen Robben.

It turns out that there may be a new name to join that list next season.

Bayern interested in Chelsea player

GiveMeSport claims that German heavyweights Bayern are keen on signing Ian Maatsen from Chelsea this summer.

It is understood that the 22-year-old is due back at Stamford Bridge after a successful short-term loan at Borussia Dortmund. Chelsea are open to selling him, though.

The report says that the Blues will demand interested clubs pay the left-back’s £35m release clause in full.

Apparently, Dortmund want to re-sign Maatsen but have asked for his transfer fee to be lowered, while Bundesliga rivals Bayern are understood to be more willing to pay the total £35m fee in order to secure the deal.

It’s worth noting that Vincent Kompany, the newly-appointed Bayern manager, previously coached Maatsen for a year at Burnley.

Ian Maatsen definitely worth £35m

The Chelsea Chronicle would prefer Maatsen to get a fresh chance at Stamford Bridge next season. However, with the club open to his sale, the least they can do is stick to their guns of demanding £35m.

The attack-minded left-back proved at Dortmund he’s a super young player. He was a key starter in the second half of last season, scoring three goals and making two assists in 23 appearances.

When you consider he’s just 22, he would be a great investment for Bayern or Dortmund.

Described as “hugely talented” by Simon Moore via The Athletic a few years ago, Maatsen could be another future star that slips through Chelsea’s fingers.
