Five Chelsea transfer targets to look out for at Euro 2024 include Mykhailo Mudryk's close friend - Opinion

Chelsea are expected to be extremely busy in the transfer market this summer, largely because they need to prepare for life under new manager Enzo Maresca.

The Blues have been linked with several players in recent weeks but the imminent signing of Tosin Adarabioyo appears to be their only move so far.

Perhaps they are waiting to see how some of their targets fare at this summer’s European Championship in Germany.

Here are five players that Chelsea could be paying close attention to at Euro 2024.

While Nicolas Jackson’s poor finishing was often frustrating, the 22-year-old had a much better season than he gets credit for.

So, rather than replacing him, Chelsea should bring another striker into the fold, which would see real competition for places in Maresca’s squad.

Girona’s Artem Dovbyk scored 24 goals in the 2023-24 La Liga campaign and he will be representing Ukraine at the Euros this summer.

A good tournament could see the Blues meet his reported £35 million release clause.

Another striker that Chelsea will be keeping a close eye on this summer is RB Leipzig’s Benjamin Sesko.

Sesko scored 14 Bundesliga goals this season and, at just 21 years of age, he has plenty of time to develop into the world-class striker that the Blues crave.

The forward will need to be on top form if Slovenia are to make it out of Group C, with England, Denmark and Serbia as their opposition.

Jordan Pickford (England)

Jordan Pickford is one of many goalkeepers to be linked with a summer move to Stamford Bridge.

That is because Robert Sanchez and Djordje Petrovic are probably not good enough to meet Maresca’s expectations in terms of playing out from the back.

Pickford excels in that area, while he is also a fantastic shot-stopper, which England fans will be hoping that he demonstrates at the Euros.

Georgiy Sudakov (Ukraine)

The second Ukraine international on this list is attacking midfielder Georgiy Sudakov, who also happens to be close friends with Chelsea winger Mykhailo Mudryk.

The pair played together at Shakhtar Donetsk and it seems that Mudryk’s struggles in West London have not put the Blues off signing his former teammate.

Sudakov has arguably been less impressive in the Ukrainian Premier League than Mudryk was, but he could earn a move to a top European club with an excellent showing at Euro 2024.

Ukraine have every chance of progressing from Group E, which features Slovakia, Romania and an ageing Belgium side.

Nico Williams (Spain)

Nico Williams, younger brother of Athletic Bilbao teammate Inaki, enjoyed a fantastic season as the Basque club finished fifth in La Liga and won the Copa del Rey.

The 21-year-old provided 16 assists in all competitions and could be tasked with being Spain’s main creator at the Euros.

La Roja’s current squad lacks the firepower of previous generations and young stars, such as Williams, will need to have great tournaments if they are to go far.

Chelsea are keen on signing a left-winger to compete with Mudryk next season and Williams would be a really exciting addition.
