Nottingham Forest almost signed £21m player for free in 2022, now Arsenal have bid for him - amid reports

Nottingham Forest almost sealed an exciting free transfer back in 2022 – although that player could now join Arsenal after the Garibaldi failed to sign him.

Those at the City Ground have often been barking up the right tree in terms of recruitment despite a few failed moves – such as the deal to sign Jonjo Shelvey – as Chelsea are now targeting Alvaro Valles, who Nottingham Forest bid for in January.

Now, a player Nottingham Forest almost signed for free in 2022 could move to Arsenal in a deal worth more than £20m…

Ferdi Kadioglu could join Arsenal after 2022 Nottingham Forest offer

A story by Takvim in January 2022 claimed that Nottingham Forest had sent a contract offer to Ferdi Kadioglu as his deal with Fenerbahce was just months away from expiring.

The Turkey international was said to be keen on a move to the Premier League and his agent even travelled to England for talks – but despite Nottingham Forest securing promotion that season, he opted to stay with Fenerbahce.

Now – according to Sabah in Turkey – Arsenal are preparing a £21.2m bid to sign Kadioglu, after he developed his talents to an even higher level at Fenerbahce across the last two years.

The Turkish news outlet even believe the Gunners have already seen a £17m offer rejected.

Of course, this information won’t provide much satisfaction to Nottingham Forest fans right now, although it is somewhat encouraging to know that those on the recruitment team identified a top talent, long before he ended up on the radar of a current giant like Arsenal.

North London rivals could annoy Nottingham Forest this summer

By the looks of it, Arsenal’s north London rivals Tottenham could frustrate Nottingham Forest this summer.

Not only are Spurs now preparing a huge bid to sign Callum Hudson-Odoi, but Ange Postecoglou’s side are also admirers of Morgan Gibbs-White, so a double deal cannot be ruled out.

Furthermore, a story from The Athletic adds that Tottenham are monitoring Murillo after his superb 2023/24 campaign.

Therefore, Spurs could well prove to be a thorn in Nottingham Forest’s side this summer.
