Son Heung-min delivers verdict on Mikey Moore after seeing him in Tottenham Hotspur training

Tottenham Hotspur saw a superstar emerge from the youth ranks in Harry Kane and there is now incredible hype surrounding one talent.

Pretty much every fanbase wants to see homegrown talents emerging into first-team roles.

Even look at Champions League winners Real Madrid; they still have contributions from homegrown players such as Nacho Fernandez, Dani Carvajal and Lucas Vazquez.

Tottenham saw Harry Kane become a club hero with his emergence from the Spurs academy but others haven’t been able to come close to his success.

Japhet Tanganga, Andros Townsend, Kyle Walker-Peters and Harry Winks had their moments but weren’t able to become long-term factors at Tottenham.

The hype around Dane Scarlett has cooled off a little too, leaving Tottenham lacking some club-trained talents right now – hence interest in bringing Walker-Peters back to the club.

Son Heung-min on Tottenham Hotspur wonderkid Mikey Moore

There is though major excitement around Mikey Moore.

The 16-year-old has been tabbed as a top talent for a while now and enjoyed a superb 2023-24 season.

14 goals and eight assists in 12 Under-18 Premier League games is a simply ridiculous record for a player who predominantly plays as a winger.

Moore was given two Premier League appearances towards the end of the season and is expected to be around the first team for pre-season too.

Ange Postecoglou will be mindful of putting too much pressure on Moore early on, but he has even been a sensation for the England Under-17’s with eight goals in nine caps.

Tottenham fans can’t wait to see more of Moore and club captain Son Heung-min has now shared his thoughts on the wonderkid.

As quoted by Football London, Son noted that Moore has been working ‘really hard’ in training and it’s great to see such a mentality from a young player.

Son picked out Moore whilst speaking out all new players coming into Tottenham’s first-team picture and is seemingly seeing encouraging things from him.

“Collectively, from the more regular starters to those coming on, everyone has been so supportive and has wanted to improve,” said Son. “I’m so appreciative of that because it has helped bring everyone together. Sometimes, when we’ve been in a tough moment, this group has shown that everybody is ready to play for this team and I’m really pleased to see that as captain.”

“I really appreciate everyone that’s come into the squad, even young players like Mikey Moore who has been training with the group and working really hard, it’s great to see these kinds of things. Generally, across the whole season, it’s been very positive, and we’ve been making steps forward. Obviously, there is still room for improvement, but the overall positive energy suggests it’s been a great season,” he added.

Moore could be Son’s heir at Tottenham

Son has been Tottenham’s left-wing star for the best part of a decade now.

Snapped up from Bayer Leverkusen in 2015, Son overcame a tricky first season to put himself into Tottenham folklore.

The South Korean has now racked up more than 400 appearances for Tottenham, smashing 162 goals and 84 assists.

Son surely isn’t going anywhere any time soon but the cold reality is that he turns 32 this summer and his time at the top will be coming to an end in the near future.

Replacing Kane hasn’t been easy and replacing Son won’t be easy either – but Moore gives Tottenham some hope of an in-house replacement.

Yes, tabbing Moore as Son’s future replacement is a little bold as he is just 16 and has so much development to come, so many ups and downs to go through.

Yet having shown the talent to become a superstar, Moore could yet become Tottenham’s next great winger.

Son knows what it takes to reach that level and certainly seems to have witnessed promising signs from Moore at such a young age, possibly seeing him as his long-term heir himself.
