'If you look': Mark Clattenburg states whether he believes his time at Nottingham Forest was a success

Former Nottingham Forest advisor Mark Clattenburg has now spoken out on whether his time at the club was actually a success.

Having joined Nottingham Forest to act as an advisor for the likes of Evangelos Marinakis with the club suffering from numerous controversial VAR decisions.

However, it was an appointment which was met with a lot of frustration by some in the media as the former Premier League referee made his return to the game – from the stands.

Nuno Espirito Santo‘s side were able to prevail against the drop this season with victory on the final day securing their safety.

Forest’s survival came following Mark Clattenburg‘s resignation from the City Ground at the beginning of May after just a matter of months at the club.

Mark Clattenburg reveals very honest thoughts on Forest role

During his time at the club, Clattenburg saw some seriously controversial refereeing decisions which went against Forest.

Perhaps the most controversial of all the games this season was the away defeat against Everton which saw Forest release a statement against the PGMOL.

That statement saw the likes of Gary Neville slam Clattenburg for his role at Forest as the Sky Sports pundit even urged the former referee to step down from his position.

Numerous members of the media were left puzzled by Clattenburg’s role at the club with Darren Bent of TalkSPORT also baffled by the decision to appoint him.

Now a month on from stepping away from his post, Clattenburg has been speaking on Radio 5Live

Asked if his role at the club was a success, Clattenburg told BBC Radio 5Live where he spoke about his role with Forest.

When asked whether he saw his time at the City Ground as a success, Clattenburg replied: “No, because if you look it caused more problems than it did good.

“There were certain things that we implemented within the club, certain ways to give a sporting edge to Nottingham Forest, but there seemed to be a huge outcry from certain people, certain bodies, certain companies. It was just highlighted week in, week out.”

Mark Clattenburg admits there was more to his Forest role

With the former Premier League referee at the heart of Forest’s VAR questions, many would imagine that his role was solely focused around the officiating decisions which went against Forest.

However, speaking to the BBC, Clattenburg has admitted that there was “misinterpretation” about his role claiming he was there to offer more than just advice on VAR.

His time at Forest clearly was not a successful one as he walked away following the barrage of criticism just three months into his spell.

And all at Forest will surely be desperate to put this season’s run-ins with the PGMOL behind them ahead of next season which they’ll be hoping brings a lot less controversy.
