Joe Lolley aims small dig at Nottingham Forest after fan asks question

Joe Lolley has now aimed a slight dig at Nottingham Forest after being asked a question on Instagram.

The man who left Nottingham Forest in 2022 made the comment when quizzed on who he misses most at the City Ground.

So, how did Joe Lolley respond? Let’s take a look…

Well, the 31-year-old made a small joke about Nottingham Forest’s bizarre recruitment policy under Evangelos Marinakis when responding to the supporter in question.

On his temporary Instagram story, Lolley wrote: “Honestly loved everyone there (all 1,039 players I played with). Brilliant dressing room and the staff behind the scenes the five years I was there.”

It’s not quite 1,039 – although the Sydney FC No.10’s list of teammates at Nottingham Forest does span across four entire pages on Transfermarkt.

In total, Lolley had 92 different teammates during his five years at the City Ground, which equates to roughly 18 per season.

Clearly, the squad was far from settled during the attacking midfielder’s time at Nottingham Forest, and recruitment is still quite scattered under Marinakis as 45 signings have been made since promotion.

Evangelos Marinakis has to tone it down

Almost everybody gets excited about transfers in football.

The transfer window represents a chance to stumble across the next greatest European talent, or can lead to an experienced journeyman embarking on a shock purple patch after a fairly mediocre career – anything can happen.

However, we feel Marinakis is getting a little too excited when it comes to recruiting new players, and the less glamorous side of football – allowing a squad to settle and gel together – now has to take precedent at the City Ground.

Lolley may have only been making a slight dig at Nottingham Forest’s transfer policy, but his comment does serve to highlight just how long the Garibaldi have been adopting a quantity over quality approach in the market.

Hopefully, that changes this summer.
