'Next week': Club's owners are setting up a transfer meeting with £75m Liverpool player - journalist

The futures of several Liverpool players are up in the air following Jurgen Klopp’s departure.

The German has left the club after over eight years at the helm. He will be a big miss for Liverpool, who have announced Arne Slot as his successor.

The Dutchman has a lot to think about ahead of his first season at Anfield, including the players he wants to keep and sell in the upcoming summer transfer window.

One player could now be set to receive huge offers from clubs in a foreign league.

PIF are setting up a transfer meeting with Liverpool’s Virgil van Dijk

The Saudi Pro League made huge waves in 2023 by signing some of the biggest names in world football.

From Cristiano Ronaldo and Neymar to Liverpool old boys Sadio Mane, Roberto Firmino and Fabinho, the SPL made some massive additions.

Now, a year later, clubs in Saudi Arabia are preparing to splash the cash on big names again, and they have added a few huge players to their wish list.

The Public Investment Fund, who happen to be the majority owners of Newcastle United, also own Al-Ittihad, Al-Ahli, Al-Nassr and Al-Hilal – the four biggest clubs in Saudi.

All four clubs have some great players in their squads, and they are now hoping to add to their strengths when the summer transfer window opens.

After claims Saudi clubs are interested in Alisson Becker, Rudy Galetti has revealed some of PIF’s other targets. Liverpool captain Virgil van Dijk is one of them.

The journalist claims that the wealthy owners of the Saudi clubs are scheduling meetings ‘next week’ with Van Dijk and others to discuss a potential move to the Middle East.

He tweeted: “The Public Investment Fund is scheduling meetings next week with several players on the Saudi League’s target list for the summer.

“Among them are Ederson, Bernardo Silva, Virgil van Dijk and Leandro Paredes.”

Liverpool have made a mistake with Van Dijk and two others

The last thing Slot needs ahead of his first season as Liverpool’s manager is uncertainty over players’ futures.

Unfortunately for the Dutch manager, his new club have allowed themselves to end up in a very vulnerable position.

Liverpool have allowed Mohamed Salah, Trent Alexander-Arnold and their skipper Van Dijk to come close to entering the final year of their contracts.

All three players could attract interest in the coming months as a result, and it looks like Van Dijk has a meeting with the Saudi giants next week.

Liverpool still hold all the cards, but if they receive a huge offer for the £75 million (BBC) Dutchman, there is a chance they could accept it instead of running the risk of losing him for nothing in 2025.
