Report: Tottenham want £30m Premier League midfielder Jose Mourinho once deemed truly 'phenomenal'

Tottenham Hotspur will be eager to bolster their ranks in the summer transfer window in wake of a mixed end to the season.

Spurs hit the ground running under Ange Postecoglou and, at one point of the season, even looked like potential dark horses for the title.

However, a downturn in form saw Tottenham drop out of top-four contention, culminating in a spot in the Europa League for next term.

Spurs are said to be looking to strengthen their midfield and, according to a report from Brazil, have set their sights on a player from a rival London club.

Globo Esporte have reported that Tottenham are one of several Premier League outfits that are interested in Fulham’s Andreas Pereira.

As well as Spurs, the likes of Aston Villa and Newcastle United are apparently eyeing the 28-year-old midfielder.

Pereira is unlikely to remain at Fulham, who have set a price tag of £30-35million for his signature, added the report.

Who is Tottenham target Andreas Pereira?

Pereira, who was born in Belgium, began his football journey at Lommel United before joining PSV Eindhoven’s academy in 2005.

He then joined Man United’s setup in 2014 and remained on their books until 2022, when he joined Fulham permanently.

Pereira has made 82 competitive appearances for the Cottagers, registering eight goals and 15 assists.

He also played for Manchester United 75 times and has won three caps for the Brazil national team.

Breaking the Lines wrote in 2022: ‘Pereira is Fulham’s main attacking outlet, with his quick feet and composure allowing him to skip past challenges and spread the ball.

‘A staple of the (then) 26-year-old’s play is his sweeping switches of play.

‘This allows (former Fulham forward Aleksandar) Mitrovic to pull wide and collect the ball in the area without attracting the attention of the centre-back who will have been briefed to tightly mark him.’

Jose Mourinho sung Pereira’s praises following his display in a 2-1 win over Leicester City in August 2018.

As per The Sun, Mourinho said: “I don’t want to go without saying about Andreas Pereira.

“He was on the bench as a right winger at Valencia and came to Old Trafford as a No 6. He played phenomenal.”
