Report: Liverpool in the hunt to sign versatile 23-year-old who has already said he wants to move to Anfield

Liverpool simply must strengthen this summer if they are to close the gap on their Premier League rivals.

Jurgen Klopp secured an important top four finish last season, but new faces are now needed to bring the club to the next level.

Champions League football is also returning to Anfield, with new manager Arne Slot needing a strong and talented squad in order to compete.

He boasts a lot of strong options, but the Reds certainly aren’t the complete package at this moment in time.

Several areas need to be improved upon, but there is a player linked with Liverpool that could help solve more problems than one.

Liverpool set sights on Feyenoord ace Lutsharel Geertruida

According to AD, Liverpool are in the hunt to sign Feyenoord star Lutsharel Geertruida in the summer transfer window.

The 23-year-old is, however, also wanted by Tottenham Hotspur, Newcastle United and West Ham ahead of the new season.

Geertruida, who boasts seven caps for the Netherlands, has almost 200 Feyenoord appearances to his name.

A huge 47 of those appearances came this season, with the player operating at right-back, centre-back and left-back.

Lutsharel Geertruida open to Arne Slot reunion

Having only just left Feyenoord, Slot clearly knows the defender very well, with a potential reunion already on the cards.

Geertruida is very open to the idea of working with Slot at Anfield, but whether or not the powers that be on Merseyside will sanction a move remains to be seen.

He would undoubtedly bolster the current group, with the Netherlands international even capable of playing in defensive midfield.

That versatility could help fill a gap at Anfield, with current defensive midfielder Wataru Endo potentially leaving the club after just one season.

Moreover, the Feyenoord man has plenty of big-game experience in his career so far, having come up against Atletico Madrid, Lazio and Celtic in this season’s Champions League.
