'My understanding': Journalist lays out Sheffield Wednesday pre-season plans ahead of 2024/25 season

Sheffield Wednesday’s pre-season plans have been laid out as they prepare for the 2024/25 campaign.

It was only a month ago that Sheffield Wednesday heroically avoided relegation and remained in the Championship for a further season.

They have enjoyed a great month since then too, with Danny Rohl, Liam Palmer and Barry Bannan all agreeing new contracts.

With Josh Windass also set to put pen to paper, the Owls are gradually building a Championship-ready squad that will aim to finish in the top half this time round.

With many players enjoying their well-earned break, their plans in preparation for the new season are beginning to emerge.

Sheffield Wednesday set to return in three weeks

Journalist Joe Crann wrote on X: “My understanding is that #SWFC’s players will be back for testing and the start of preseason on June 28th, just before Owls in the Park… As reported by @AlexMiller91, they’ll head off to St. George’s Park not long afterwards.”

This gives Wednesday another three weeks to rest before they are back to work, while it also allows Danny Rohl a little less time to add any new signings he wants to arrive before pre-season training begins.

The Star have reported that after returning to Middlewood Road, they will travel to St. George’s Park from July 8th until July 13th, before jetting off to Germany later that month.

The Owls will be following England’s footsteps, with the national team using St. George’s Park as a training hub before travelling to Germany to kick off the Euros next week.

Rohl will also be in attendance at the tournament as he is preparing to work for ITV as a pundit, so he may be expected to miss sessions with Hillsborough until the Euro final takes place on July 14th.

The Owls are yet to confirm pre-season friendlies

The Yorkshire outfit are yet to confirm their pre-season friendlies, though they are expected to play in both the UK and Germany.

Rohl has already admitted that he prefers to only play a few friendlies, previously telling The Star: “I don’t like to have too many friendly games, I prefer to have one game in one week, because then you can really train for one topic – otherwise you’re looking just game to game. That’s important for me.”
