Man Utd legend open to first managerial role since 2023 as he has 'put his name' forward for English club

Manchester United legend Ruud van Nistelrooy could make his hotly anticipated return to the managerial dugout for the first time since 2023, according to stunning reports.

Van Nistelrooy took up the role of PSV Under-19s manager in 2018 before he was promoted to the head coach role of the first team in 2022.

The United legend, who replaced Roger Schmidt at PSV, impressed in his one and only season at PSV as manager.

Van Nistelrooy led PSV to second place in the Eredivisie, with the Dutch side falling seven points short of Feyenoord in the title race.

Man Utd legend Van Nistelrooy to return to England?

Despite his success with PSV as a manager, Ruud van Nistelrooy bowed of the Dutch club with “immediate effect” before the 2022-23 campaign was out.

PSV claimed in a club statement in 2023 that the former Manchester United star felt a “lack of support within the club” and Van Nistelrooy had resigned from his role.

Van Nistelrooy has not made his return to management since his spell with PSV, despite attracting interest from other clubs in England.

The Sun reporter Alan Nixon has now claimed that the former Netherlands and PSV striker is linked with a sensational return to the dugout.

Alan Nixon took to X, formerly known as Twitter, and confirmed that Van Nistelrooy had ‘put himself forward’ for the vacant managerial role at Burnley.

Van Nistelrooy now linked with Burnley

Burnley are on the hunt for a new manager after Manchester City legend Vincent Kompany was surprisingly snapped up by Bayern Munich last month.

Vincent Kompany had taken charge of Burnley in 2022 and lifted the Championship title with the Clarets in his debut season at Turf Moor.

However, the 38-year-old ex-Manchester City captain endured a tough spell in the Premier League as a manager and Burnley were relegated in the 2023-24 season.

Despite leading Burnley to 19th place in the Premier League, Kompany managed to land a move to Bayern Munich and succeeded Thomas Tuchel as the club’s manager.

Former Newcastle and Liverpool player Craig Bellamy has temporarily taken charge of Burnley as the Championship side are on the hunt for a new manager.
