'I'd be very surprised': Graham Smyth thinks 49ers will sell Leeds star, expected sale even if promoted

Graham Smyth claims he would be “very, very surprised” if Leeds United managed to keep hold of one crucial star under Daniel Farke, claiming he would have been sold even if promoted.

Paraag Marathe did a spate of interviews with numerous sources last week and said that the club will have to sell player this summer in order to balance the books, amid reports the club owe £190m in transfers.

Parachute payments, and the sales of Tyler Adams and Luis Sinisterra offset that fee. But The 49ers are well aware that they would have a huge credit card bill on their hands when they assumed control.

Players will have to be sold and the most-likely one to go is Crysencio Summerville. He is attracting interest from Chelsea, Liverpool, Fulham, West Ham and Bournemouth going into the summer window.

Newcastle have discussed the Dutchman internally, while Crystal Palace could make a move if either Eberechi Eze or Michael Olise are sold with Tottenham eyeing Eze and Manchester United after Olise.

Graham Smyth delivered verdict on Crysencio Summerville future

The Championship’s Player of the Season sparkled in a Leeds shirt, in what was his breakthrough season. He had a hand in 31 goals as Leeds reached the play-off final and is rated between £35m and £40m.

Smyth told the Inside Elland Road podcast he would be shocked if Summerville and his representatives chose to remain at Leeds. He claims even if the club were promoted, the sale of Summerville was likely.

“I almost think this is a move that had Leeds gone up, was going to come anyway. He gave it a season in the Championship, I’d be very, very surprised if him and his party gave it another in The Championship.

“He’s been kicked to bits all season, he’s scored a ton of goals, he’s proved he’s too good for defenders at this level, he’s done enough to warrant a move. There’s money to be made. He cost £1.5m, that is profit.”

What Fabrizio Romano has said about Summerville’s future

The man in the know at these times of year is Fabrizio Romano, and he says that Liverpool and Chelsea are showing the most interest in Summerville who was bought by Leeds for a measly £1.3m in 2020.

But is a move to one of those big clubs, where competition for places is aplenty, the right move? He has starred this season because he has the confidence of being Leeds’ first-choice winger on the left flank.

Summerville needs a club where is going to play regularly, but still perhaps be in the mix for European football. A West Ham, a Fulham or possibly linking up Sinisterra and Adams at Bournemouth suits him.
