Manchester United set sights on USA international for problem position, he loves winning at Old Trafford

Manchester United are casting the net out for potential signings at left-back, the club’s problem position in 2023/24.

Tyrell Malacia did not make a single start all season, or play even a minute, while Luke Shaw’s own injury problems restricted him to only 12 appearances.

Manchester United are then looking to sign a new left-back to avoid a repeat of a situation where almost the entire season was played with fill-in options.

Fabrizio Romano reports Manchester United like Bournemouth’s Milos Kerkez, but he will be expensive after just signing with the Cherries last August, and subsequently enhancing his reputation.

Antonee Robinson linked to Manchester United

More names have been linked. United In Focus has been told Manchester United are keen on Wolves’ Rayan Ait-Nouri and Brest’s Bradley Locko, in addition to Nice left-back Melvin Bard.

Another name linked, per Give Me Sport, is Fulham defender Antonee Robinson, 26.

The report claims ‘Old Trafford chiefs’ are admirers of Robinson and he is on the club’s list of potential targets this summer.

Robinson, a USA international, ticks one box. He started 37 Premier League games last season. He also contributed six assists.

Last season he played 35 league games for Fulham and the year before that, 36 games, so from a fitness perspective, Robinson could solve the issue simply by being available.

Earlier this year after Fulham pulled off a surprise win away at Manchester United, Robinson wrote on X: “Doesn’t get much better than a win at Old Trafford.”

What Robinson could bring to Manchester United

Antonee Robinson could help Manchester United get the best out of striker Rasmus Hojlund, and whoever joins him up front.

Robinson’s delivery is among his attributes. He made 26 successful crosses into the penalty box last season, which per FBRef is the second highest in the Premier League, just one behind Pascall Gross.

He also ranked number one in the Premier League for interceptions (80), 11 clear of the next best player.

Robinson began his career at Everton, before a spell at Wigan, and is now playing for his former Toffees boss at Fulham.

He has just won the Fulham player of the season award, showing his value to the club, although the price tag they would want is unclear. He signed a new deal last summer, which runs to June 2028.
