A 61-year-old man from New York City was charged on Tuesday with sexually assaulting a young child in New Jersey.
Luis Zhagui, of Queens, was charged with criminal sexual assault by contact and endangering the welfare of a child, the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office said in a news release. He was apprehended Thursday by Bergen County authorities and NYPD detectives.
In July 2023, it was reported that the alleged sexual assault had previously occurred in Hasbrouck Heights. The victim was under the age of 13 at the time, prosecutors said.
Zhagui is being held at an NYPD precinct in Queens and is awaiting extradition to New Jersey.
