Driver indicted after allegedly fleeing crash that killed 17-year-old

A driver has been indicted after he allegedly fled the scene of a crash that left a 17-year-old pedestrian dead.

A grand jury on Tuesday indicted Everette Williams, 51, of Atlantic City, on charges of leaving the scene of a motor vehicle accident resulting in death, a second-degree crime, the Atlantic County Prosecutor’s Office said in a news release.

Williams was charged by the Prosecutor’s Office and apprehended by U.S. Marshals in May, about three months after the crash.

The boy, a Galloway resident, was struck on White Horse Pike near the Executive Lodge in Absecon shortly before 9:30 p.m. on Feb. 17, officials said.

Prosecutors have alleged Williams struck the boy, fled the scene and destroyed the VIN number on his car before abandoning it. His license was also suspended at the time of the crash, authorities said.
