Mourinho reveals whether his Tottenham team would’ve beaten Man City in 2021 Carabao Cup final

Considering Guardiola and Mourinho have gone toe-to-toe with each other on several instances, the contest seemed like a blockbuster in the making.

Spurs finished seventh that season while City won the Premier League.

The Lilywhites also finished 24 points behind the Sky Blues. At the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, Spurs beat City 2-0 in November 2020.

But in the return fixture, the Premier League winners exacted revenge with a 3-0 victory at the Etihad Stadium.

When speaking about Harry Kane, Jose Mourinho has confidently claimed that his Tottenham team would have beaten Manchester City in the 2021 Carabao Cup final.

Mourinho said via journalist Chris Wheatley: “The only thing he is missing is to win a trophy.”

“He was my player at Tottenham and I was going to win one with him, but I was sacked six days before the final.”

Man City would have been the outright favourites

Even if Jose Mourinho was managing that Tottenham team, Manchester City would have been outright favourites to win the game.

Mourinho’s experience of winning finals would have given Spurs more of a chance of causing an upset.

However, City were playing an incredible brand of football that season, even reaching the Champions League final.

On the other hand, Tottenham were far from playing their best football and it seemed like Mourinho’s cycle at the club had come to an end

Logically, City would have beaten Spurs.

Pep Guardiola would perhaps have been more driven than usual to defeat Jose Mourinho and his side and vice versa due to their longstanding rivalry.

However, due to Tottenham’s decision to show Mourinho the exit door, the world could not witness a potentially unforgettable encounter.
