Controversial Rangers star now wants Ibrox exit as Clement readies cut-throat overhaul

Rangers manager Philippe Clement is preparing for one almighty Ibrox rebuild this summer.

With five names already walking out the door for nothing, there has been plenty of talk about the incomings and outgoings around the club.

Whilst who will be lining up for Rangers on the first day of the season remains unclear, one thing is absolutely certain.

There can be no room for hangers-on and anyone who is not fully committed to the Rangers cause must be shipped out as the Philippe Clement revolution really gets underway.

With that in mind, we’re hearing that one key Ibrox star – who hasn’t been without controversy this season – is angling for the exit door.

Cantwell Rangers future up in the air

Todd Cantwell is a name which certainly polarises Rangers supporters.

On his day, the 26-year-old Englishman is as good as anyone currently plying their trade in Scotland.

A genuine match winner, Rangers pulled off something of a coup signing the attacking midfielder from Norwich City 18 months ago.

But there’s a reason why Todd Cantwell – who famously came close to joining Bayern Munich – has gone from a Premier League wonderkid to his career hanging in the balance in Scotland.

The season just passed was also fraught with frustration.

Philippe Clement famously hooked Todd Cantwell in the first half of a Europa League clash against Aris Limassol.

The Belgian was also spotted pulling the midfielder away from the refereeing team at the end of the Scottish Cup Final defeat to Celtic.

Rangers fans too have been left frustrated with Cantwell’s use of social media at times this season and it all points to a player lacking focus at a crucial time in Ibrox history.

Whilst Todd Cantwell remains a fan favourite and someone Rangers fans generally believe in, it now appears that the player is considering an exit from Glasgow.

Ex-Norwich star agitating for Ibrox exit

According to information from HITC journalist Graeme Bailey Todd Cantwell looks to be agitating for a move away from Rangers.

The former Sky Sports and Mirror journalist has been talking exclusively to Rangers News with the Cantwell claims coming down the transfer grapevine.

It’s believed that after 18 months with the club the ex-Canaries star is ready to move on from Ibrox and the situation will surely receive a mixed response amongst fans.

Whilst we’ve seen flashes of Todd Cantwell at his best it’s fair to say the club are not getting the most from the midfielder for whatever reason.

There has been a suggestion that Rangers manager Philippe Clement doesn’t best utilise Todd Cantwell’s talents.

Other Rangers fans have been critical for the midfielder’s perceived attitude issues.

Whatever the case, Todd Cantwell could now be on the move this summer and should the situation continue to escalate it will present Rangers with a fresh transfer challenge.

Cantwell occupies a key role in the squad and the Gers would have to go out and find a suitable replacement.

The former England youth international joined Rangers in a £1.5m deal in January 2023 under the management of Michael Beale.

Signing a ‘long term’ deal, Rangers could turn a profit on the midfielder but at this stage it remains unclear how far down the line any exit negotiations might be.
