You won't believe the transformation that the London Stadium has just undergone

West Ham United’s London Stadium has just undergone a quite remarkable transformation.

Back in the summer of 2016, West Ham moved from Upton Park into our new home at the London Stadium.

The Hammers rent the Stratford arena, and back in 2021 agreed to pay £250,000 annually to take the football capacity to 60,000 and a further £83,000 to take the capacity to 62,500.

West Ham then hope to increase the capacity again to 68,000 in time for the start of the 2026/27 season.

It was recently claimed that the Government could sell the London Stadium, but it was then confirmed that those suggestions were wide of the mark.

It’s taken eight years, but the London Stadium is now starting to feel like home. It never will be Upton Park, but we’ve just got to make the best of what we have right?

There is constant chatter about how our stadium could be improved, but not much has been done for the football going fans.

Now the Hammers fans will be shocked to see the transformation that our home ground has just undergone…

West Ham United’s London Stadium undergoes incredible transformation

It’s all go this summer in Stratford.

Whilst there will be no West Ham games until August, there will be some live sports on show.

Major League Baseball will take centre-stage at the London Stadium, with the New York Mets set to face off against the Philadelphia Phillies.

West Ham’s home stadium hosted baseball’s London Series last summer as well.

The London Stadium really could not look any different for the upcoming Mets vs Phillies clash than it does for our home games.

The BBC have posted a time-lapse video showing the changes that have been undertaken ahead of the MLB game this summer:

When the London Series has finished, wouldn’t it be nice if there were some changes made to make West Ham United’s London Stadium more suitable for football.

I wouldn’t count on it though. The design of the arena means that the seats are always too far away from the pitch.

Maybe one day the club will own the stadium and the owners can make some changes themselves. Until then though, I don’t expect to see any significant changes.
