'Dangerous': Journalist confirms there's a worrying transfer situation emerging at Newcastle now

June is a worrying month for Newcastle United.

While there is currently a lot of excitement surrounding the launch of the new Adidas kit, it remains unclear who will be wearing it for Newcastle United next season.

Players are going to come and go, and there could be a focus on the latter given claims the Magpies are under pressure to sell before the end of June due to the Premier League’s profit and sustainability rules.

Combine that with Bruno Guimaraes‘ release clause being active and this is a very nervous month for the Toon Army.

Bruno is a man in demand after another spectacular season at St James’ Park, and is available this month for £100million.

He has been attracting interest from from Arsenal and Manchester City, and HITC Football insider Graeme Bailey has explained to Geordie Boot Boys why the Premier League champions could be well-placed to make a move after he reported that there is some concern on Tyneside about Bruno’s release clause being activated.

“Manchester City are impacting on Newcastle quite a lot lately,” he said.

“They lose the cup final which denies Newcastle that place in Europe. Then they might very well come and take Bruno Guimaraes.

“They are one of the clubs that are looking at Bruno. Unfortunately for Newcastle, Lucas Paqueta is no longer a transfer target for Man City this summer, which is a blow because if they were going to go spend £80million on Paqueta then there would be less chance of them spending £100million on Bruno.

“They need centre-midfield reinforcements. Kalvin Phillips is going to go and Matheus Nunes is available. There is room at Man City for Bruno, there really is.”

No move for Bruno Guimaraes yet as Newcastle wait nervously

It is a delicate situation for Newcastle, yet all they can do is wait. They are powerless if someone comes in with a £100million offer, but that has not happened as of yet, according to Bailey.

“Newcastle don’t want him to go and are hopeful that he stays. But when someone has got a release clause, all you can be is hopeful.

“There has not been any contact, but Man City do not need to contact Newcastle – and Newcastle know that. They probably would do out of a matter of respect.

“It is a dangerous situation for Newcastle. They will be counting down the days until this clause expires at the end of this month.

“Arsenal are not going to activate his release clause. They like him, but they are not going to do it. But there are a few teams in the world who you don’t want after your player with a release clause, and two of them are Man City and PSG.”

With Manchester City’s wealth and their desire to sign a midfielder, it certainly will be a nervous few weeks as everyone associated with Newcastle United eagerly waits for Bruno Guimaraes’ release clause to expire.

Just over three weeks to go…
