Report: Aston Villa ready to launch bid for £26m player who's 'one of the best' in the world in his position

Aston Villa will be eager to bolster their ranks this summer ahead of a huge 2024/25 campaign.

The Villans have been going from strength to strength under Unai Emery since he took the reins at B6 in November 2022.

Villa were a lowly 15th in the Premier League table when Emery took over. Now, 18 months down the line, they’re set for the Champions League.

A combination of great tactics, superb man-management and a number of great signings have turned the Villans into a force to be reckoned with.

However, Villa will be mindful of how much extra workload comes with being in the Champions League, so they’re bound to strengthen their squad.

Now, according to a report in Italy, the Villans have readied themselves to launch a bid for “one of the best right-backs in the world”.

The player in question is Inter Milan’s Denzel Dumfries, who has been heavily linked with a summer move due to his contract expiring in 2025.

Inter Live have reported that Dumfries’ displays and attitude late last season have ‘convinced Aston Villa to take concrete steps towards his direction.’

The report claims that the Villans ‘would in fact be ready to formalize an offer to present to Inter in the hope of being able to convince Simone Inzaghi’ to sell him.

However, Inzaghi is said to be reluctant to part company with Dumfries, as it would be difficult to find a replacement who’s so apt in both defence and attack.

Aston Villa would be getting a top player in Denzel Dumfries

A talented, experienced right-back in his prime like Dumfries would be a great acquisition for Villa.

Bayer Leverkusen and Netherlands ace Jeremie Frimpong has spoken very highly of the reported Man United target in the past.

“I will play wherever the coach wants, both with Leverkusen and the Dutch national team whenever I get the chance,” he told Ziggo Sport, via FcInterNews, in February.

“This is what every footballer wants. However, I’m aware of the strong competition in the national team.

“I knew it would be difficult for me, because Denzel Dumfries is one of the best right-backs in the world.”

Although Matty Cash has done well at Villa, Dumfries – who is said to have a £26million price tag – would be great competition for the Poland international.
