Report: How Chelsea squad feel about Enzo Maresca appointment after speaking to some of his former players

A report has shared how the Chelsea squad feel about the appointment of Enzo Maresca as their new head coach after speaking to some of his former players about the Italian.

Chelsea have now confirmed that Enzo Maresca will be the man to succeed Mauricio Pochettino at Stamford Bridge, with the Blues handing the 44-year-old a five-year deal which includes the option for a further year.

It is a huge show of faith in Maresca given that he has only managed 67 games at senior level, and he is yet to work as a number one at a Premier League club.

Some were incredibly critical of the decision to part company with Pochettino. And Pochettino was popular with many of the Chelsea squad, so there was a chance that the decision to make the change could have been incredibly unpopular.

Leicester were the big favourites to win the Championship this past season, so he deserves credit for delivering that title win – even if there were a few occasions where their fate appeared to be in some doubt.

Curious Mauricio Pochettino sacking raises question over what would represent success for new Blues boss

Pochettino’s departure raises questions over what exactly would represent success for Maresca, particularly in his first season in charge.

Chelsea did well to finish sixth, really improving in the second-half of the campaign, so Maresca has a tough task to show that he is the right man to take the club in the right direction.

But it is definitely encouraging news that he appears to have the backing of his new squad of players.
