Report: Arsenal now want to sign 'superstar' forward who plays just like Luis Suarez

Arsenal are interested in signing a Juventus player this summer.

The Gunners are expected to be busy in the upcoming transfer window. They could do with reinforcements in several areas of the pitch, but many feel a versatile forward has to be the priority.

Arsenal have been heavily linked with a move to sign Benjamin Sesko, but now, a report claims they are considering a move to sign a completely different type of forward who currently plays for Juventus.

Arsenal want to sign Federico Chiesa from Juventus

Mikel Arteta has built a phenomenal squad at Arsenal over the last few years, but they are still not quite on the same level as their Premier League title rivals, Manchester City.

The North Londoners finished five points behind Pep Guardiola‘s side in the 2022/23 season and fell two short in the following campaign.

The next step for Arsenal is to pip City to the title, and Arteta will need to strengthen his squad to get past the final hurdle.

The Gunners could do with a new striker, while they also need reinforcements out wide, especially on the right wing to provide cover for Bukayo Saka.

That’s probably why they are considering a move to sign versatile Juventus star Federico Chiesa.

The 26-year-old, branded as a ‘superstar‘ by Italian presenter Adriano Del Monte, has had a difficult few seasons in Turin after exploding in the 2020/21 season, when he scored 15 goals and provided 11 assists.

In the following three campaigns, he has managed a combined 18 goals and 13 assists, which is not good enough for a player of his quality.

Tutto Juve now claim that Juventus are ready to sell Chiesa, and Arsenal are among a few other clubs interested in signing him.

The Italian club, however, are demanding a fee between €40 million and €45 million (£34m-£38m) this summer.

Fellow Premier League sides Chelsea and Newcastle United are also said to be interested in signing Chiesa in this summer’s transfer window.

Chiesa can solve two different problems at Arsenal

If you look at Chiesa’s numbers over the last three seasons, you would argue that Arsenal should not be signing him this summer.

However, for the right price, this move makes a lot of sense.

The Italian, who Joe Cole once compared to a young Luis Suarez following his winner against Chelsea in the Champions League (BT Sport, September 29, 2021), is as versatile as they come.

He can play across the front line and also as a second striker, behind a more physical number nine.

That would make him an ideal backup at Arsenal – not just up front but also on the right flank to give Saka the rest he needs.

Chiesa would solve two very key problems if Arsenal do sign him, but whether the Gunners would be willing to pay so much money for someone who will only be a backup remains to be seen.
