'Automatic rejection': Liverpool think it's now impossible to sign 'amazing' Premier League player - journalist

Liverpool have realised that it won’t be possible for them to sign one rival Premier League player.

The Arne Slot era has begun at Anfield, and the Dutchman is set to implement his own ideas on the Reds, who have been so used to Jurgen Klopp‘s methods over the years.

Slot is expected to sign a few new players as well, and many feel a new defender is the priority going into the summer transfer window.

What Liverpool think about signing Levi Colwill from Chelsea

Chelsea star Levi Colwill has been on Liverpool’s radar for a long time.

The Reds were heavily linked with a move to sign him in the summer of 2023 following a very successful loan spell at Brighton and Hove Albion.

The Blues managed to secure his future by tying him down to a long-term contract, and that has put them in a very strong position in potential transfer negotiations.

Liverpool’s interest, however, hasn’t gone away. The Merseysiders still really like Colwill and would love to sign him.

However, the Reds have apparently realised that a deal to sign the talented English defender is impossible in 2024.

That’s according to Ben Jacobs, who has revealed that Liverpool are focusing on other targets now after accepting defeat in their attempts to sign the ‘amazing‘ Colwill.

He told GiveMeSport: “He’s missed out on the EURO squad. And even though the player [Colwill], if he can’t get into the England setup – or if for whatever reason he’s not playing regularly at Chelsea under Enzo Maresca, or playing out of position – he may start to at least look at options.

“But the Chelsea stance is very much an automatic rejection at this point for summer 2024, and Liverpool know that, so they are not engaging. All of the noise is obviously coming from elsewhere because Liverpool are entirely focused on other targets.

“Again, it’s not because they don’t appreciate Colwill, it’s because they simply don’t think that anything is possible in 2024.”

The two defenders Liverpool are targeting in 2024

Colwill would’ve been ideal for Liverpool. but that move will not happen this summer. So, the Reds have to look elsewhere to strengthen their defence.

Joel Matip will be released by the Reds, while Virgil van Dijk is not getting any younger. Liverpool are expecting offers for Joe Gomez too and Ibrahima Konate is attracting interest from PSG.

A new defender is the priority in this summer’s transfer window, and Fabrizio Romano has shared the two players Liverpool are looking at signing.

The journalist told GiveMeSport that Leny Yoro of Lille and Bayer Leverkusen star Willian Pacho are being watched by the Reds ahead of a potential move this summer.

Liverpool, at this moment in time, are yet to decide who they will go for.
