‘Total agreement’: Journalist says ‘incredible’ Man City player has now signed a new deal at the Etihad

A journalist has claimed that one particular Manchester City player has agreed to sign a new contract with the club.

Recent years have seen numerous players in Pep Guardiola’s squad pledge their futures to the Manchester club by signing contract extensions such as Phil Foden, Rodri and Kyle Walker among others.

Now that another season has been and gone, with the Citizens winning a sixth Premier League title in seven years and becoming the first side to win four in a row, some behind-the-scenes details have come to light regarding another player who has put pen to paper on a new deal.

Journalist says Stefan Ortega has agreed to sign a new Man City contract

In a recent post on his official X account, journalist Florian Plettenberg had this to say on the matter.

He said: “Exclusive | Done Deal: Stefan Ortega will sign a new contract until 2026 with Man City! After tough negotiations in recent months, a total agreement is now done.

“Pep Guardiola wanted him to stay. Ortega will now do everything to become the number one next season.”

This is good news for City

Over the past few weeks, it was reported that City’s attempts to get the goalkeeper to sign a new deal had stalled.

In fact, it was Plettenberg who said back in May that an agreement between City and Ortega couldn’t be found due to the financial aspects that were put on the table.

Looking back over the recent season, the 31-year-old featured in 20 games across all competitions and kept eight clean sheets in the process.

His standout moment came in City’s 2-0 win over Tottenham Hotspur in their penultimate Premier League game of the season where he made a crucial save in a one-v-one situation against Son Heung-min after replacing the injured Ederson.

Jamie Carragher then went on to claim that it was this save from Ortega, which Guardiola described as “incredible” in his post-match press conference, that delivered City the league title.

Now that it has been claimed that the shot-stopper has signed a new deal at the Manchester club, we feel that this is very good news for everyone at City.
