‘I’d tell him’: Bernardo Silva urges ‘excellent’ Portugal player to join Man City

Bernardo Silva has said that he would love to see one of his Portugal teammates join him at Manchester City.

During his time at the Manchester club, Silva has played alongside other Portuguese players such as Ruben Dias, Joao Cancelo and Matheus Nunes.

Now though, the 29-year-old has been sharing his thoughts on another one of his fellow countrymen who has been mentioned with a move to the Premier League in recent weeks.

Bernardo Silva says Joao Neves should join Man City

Speaking in a recent press conference to the Portuguese media (via O Jogo), Silva had this to say on the subject of Joao Neves and his recent transfer links to Manchester United.

He said: “I’d tell him to go to Manchester City. It’s not easy. He’s a player who, given his success last season, has many clubs wanting him.

“As a Portuguese and a player I like, I’d like to see him alongside me. But I want the best for him.

“Guardiola? I don’t need to convince him. Joao Neves is already convincing because of the way he works and the energy he brings to the game.

“He won’t be a cheap player, it won’t be easy for many clubs to get in on the act. Let him make his decision, let it be what’s best for him. If he keeps up this energy, he has a very good future ahead of him.”

Neves proved his quality this season

At the age of 19, the defensive-midfielder has made 75 senior appearances for Benfica after working his way through the youth ranks at the Portuguese club.

Looking back over the most recent Primeira Liga campaign, Neves featured in the joint-highest number of league games (33) at Benfica.

Across those games, the midfielder made more passes into the final third of the pitch (177) than any other player at the Portuguese club.

He also made more successful tackles (53), blocks (49) and recoveries (212) than any other player in the Benfica squad.

Having been described as an “excellent” player by Bruno Fernandes, it’s easy to see why Neces has been linked with a move to the Premier League and why Silva would love to play alongside him at City.
