‘Maybe’: Chelsea could go for ‘fantastic’ striker if they don’t end up signing Benjamin Sesko – journalist

Chelsea are in the market for a new striker this summer.

The Blues need a new centre-forward to add another edge to their attack, and they seem to have a top target in mind.

Indeed, Benjamin Sesko is said to be a player Chelsea are very keen on, but that deal won’t be easy to do.

Arsenal and Manchester United are also keen on Sesko, and there’s every chance the striker doesn’t end up at Stamford Bridge.

Speaking on the Ranks FC Ultras Podcast, Dean Jones has been discussing Chelsea’s hunt for a new striker, and he says that Dominic Calvert-Lewin could perhaps be a backup option if Chelsea don’t sign Sesko.

Chelsea could go for Dominic Calvert-Lewin

Jones spoke about Chelsea and their hunt for a striker.

“The Mail are reporting that Chelsea are monitoring Calvert-Lewin. I have to say I’ve never really heard Chelsea attached to Calvert-Lewin. This is the first time I’ve had Chelsea linked with Calvert-Lewin.

“The closest link I’d had to Calvert-Lewin was Newcastle a few weeks back and that interest was 100% genuine. My feeling is they’re focusing on the Sesko situation closer than that at the moment.

“Keep watching out for Sesko, but maybe Calvert-Lewin is a background option for Chelsea if that doesn’t come through.

Calvert-Lewin a step down

Calvert-Lewin would not be the right signing for Chelsea.

The England international has been in poor form for three years now, and he would be a step down on what Chelsea currently already have.

Of course, at his best, Calvert-Lewin is a ‘fantastic’ striker, but it’s been so long since we’ve seen him perform to those sorts of levels.

Chelsea need a striker who can come in and make an immediate impact to the first-team, and, sadly, Calvert-Lewin isn’t going to be that player.
