How Caoimhin Kelleher actually feels about leaving Liverpool to join Celtic this summer

Liverpool could be set to lose several players during the summer transfer market.

By and large, it feels as though the Liverpool squad who ended this season will be kept together into the next.

However, there do remain some quite large questions marks over a number of players as Arne Slot takes over at Anfield.

The contract situations of Trent Alexander-Arnold, Mohamed Salah and Virgil van Dijk continue to cause anxiety, while reports linking Alisson Becker with an exit won’t go away.

Luis Diaz has been attracting interest from Barcelona, while it seems fairly likely that we’ve seen the last of Caoimhin Kelleher at the club.

Caoimhin Kelleher working towards Liverpool exit

Of those notable players, the one who feels the most certain to leave is without a doubt Kelleher.

Kelleher has even spoken publicly about his desire to play more first-team football. While he may be good enough to do so, that won’t be at Liverpool.

As a result, the Irishman looks set to be on the market over the new few months. The Reds won’t stand in his way. An offer is reportedly already on the way for Kelleher from Wolves, while Celtic are another to have been linked with the 25-year-old.

And speaking exclusively to Rousing The Kop, journalist Graeme Bailey says that Kelleher’s agents are actively working to find a new club for the Ireland goalie, with a move to Celtic a definite possibility.

“Caoimhin Kelleher wants to play first-team football and that’s unlikely to be the case at Anfield,” says Bailey. “Celtic are still desperate to get him. Will Liverpool come down enough in terms of wages and overall fee? It looks a tough one.

“But Celtic are in the Champions League, so I still feel that deal’s got legs,” adds the journalist. “I think the player quite fancies it, playing Champions League football. I wouldn’t necessarily rule that out.

“The whole thing’s being discussed. They need to confirm the Alisson situation before they let Kelleher go. That still needs to be finalised.

“But I think Kelleher’s people are working towards him leaving. It doesn’t look like there’s an awful lot of options in the Premier League for him to be honest, so we’ll see what transpires.”

Liverpool working on signing Caoimhin Kelleher replacement

It does feel like the right time for Liverpool to sell Kelleher. Although we’d rather the academy graduate stuck around, he deserves to play more regularly.

As a result, Liverpool are going to have to find themselves a new back-up for Alisson – providing the Brazilian stays of course.

Luckily, it sounds like the Reds are already making moves into doing that.

Earlier this week it was claimed that Liverpool had made an offer for Monza goalkeeper Michele Di Gregorio. However the Italian has decided to join Juventus instead.

More links have arrived in the shape of Brazil international goalie Bento Krepski, who would be a fascinating addition.

First of all Kelleher needs to be sorted out. Once he is, expect Liverpool to move quickly to bring in his replacement.
