Top 100 Cornerback commits to Alabama

Chuck McDonald during his Alabama official visit

Coach Kalen DeBoer and his coaching staff are starting to cook. Alabama has just added its second Top 100 recruit of the week. Chuck McDonald, No. 9 cornerback per the On3 Industry Player Rankings, announced his decision on Thursday. McDonald is commitment No. 11 for Alabama in the ’25 class.

McDonald took an official visit to Alabama last weekend. He previously had plans for official visits to Georgia (6/7), Oregon (6/14) and USC (6/21). The visits have all been cancelled. He is locked-in with his decision, and he is also expected to return to Tuscaloosa this weekend for an unofficial visit.

“Just everything,” McDonald said on why he chose the Crimson Tide. “The coaching-everyone seems solid up there. Everyone seems real. I love the coaching experience they have. Coach Mo (Linguist) has been a head coach.

“I also talked to some of my old teammates (Domani Jackson, Zabien Brown). They told me the real about how everything is there. It just felt right. If you want to be the best, you go to ‘Bama. There is nowhere else to be.”

McDonald told BOL that he decided Alabama as the choice a few days after returning home from his official visit. He informed the Crimson Tide staff, and quickly scheduled a return visit to T-Town, arriving late on Friday night to help recruit.

“It feels great to be committed,” he said. “It’s just different here. I am blessed to be in this position. I told Coach Mo about the commitment. He was excited. He ready for me to get started. Everything is just right with Alabama. People say the new staff won’t be the same, but they are going to keep that standard. I know that for sure.”

This is the second cornerback commitment for Alabama with McDonald joining Zymear Smith, four-star from North Caroline High School in Denton, Maryland. Smith was also in Tuscaloosa with McDonald last weekend for the official visit. The Crimson Tide will have another top corner target on its campus this weekend in Na’eem Offord, five-star from Parker High School in Birmingham.

McDonald is the second player from Mater Dei who has committed to Alabama in this cycle- joining four-star linebacker Abduall Sanders. Alabama is also in pursuit of teammate, four-star RB Jordon Davison, who also took an official visit with Alabama last weekend. Current Tide cornerbacks Domani Jackson and Zabien Brown played for the national powerhouse high school program which also produced Heisman Trophy winner, Bryce Young.

Alabama has heavily pursued several recruits in the Golden State in the ’25 class. UA still has a few priority targets visiting this month including Dijon Lee, five-star corner from Mission Viejo (June 21), Josiah Sharma, Top 100 defensive lineman from Folsom (June 21) and Kaleb Edwards, four-star tight end from Oak Ridge HS in El Dorado.
