Report shares one Man City star could become the highest-paid British player in history

It has been claimed that one Manchester City stalwart could become the highest-paid British player in history.

City will be looking to secure their players’ long-term futures, especially with Pep Guardiola reported to leave the Etihad Stadium in 2025 and bid adieu to club management.

After Guardiola departs the club, there would be a danger of a mass exodus from Manchester City.

Man City star set to become highest-paid British player of all time

As a result, it would be wise for the Sky Blues not to risk players running down their contracts and following him out of the club — if he leaves in 2025 or a few years after.

However, The Sun have reported that Manchester City intend to tie Phil Foden down to a long-term contract — making him the highest-paid British player of all time.

The lucrative contract would boost Foden’s wages up to £375,000-a-week, while the report states that his current weekly wages are £200,000.

It has also been claimed that City aim to start working on the deal with their number 47 before the start of the 2024/2025 season. Furthermore, Manchester City do not expect “major hiccups” in getting a deal over the line.

The Premier League winners are expected to free up their wage bill, with players on high weekly wages potentially heading towards the exit door.

The report claims that the contract could mean Foden, 24 is tied down to his boyhood club until he turns 30. As things stand, the Englishman’s ongoing deal runs out in 2027.

It has been stated that Manchester City are willing to reward Phil Foden with a bumper contract for his exceptional form over the last 12 months. Additionally, the club intend to ward off potential suitors such as Real Madrid.

Reported bumper contract shows how much Man City value Foden

If Phil Foden is set to be paid as much as has been reported in his potential new contract, it goes to show how much Manchester City value him.

Foden is the present and the future of this club — as exemplified by how crucial he was to City’s success last season, which also showcased the calibre of player he could develop into in his prime.

It would be a nightmare for the English giants to lose a player of the six-time Premier League winner’s class and potential, also keeping in mind that he represents the club as their standout academy graduate.

Phil Foden could be buoyed to push himself to the next level in a Manchester City shirt if he decides to sign the bumper contract.
