Manchester United now in contact over signing 'dominant' £51m defender - Fabrizio Romano

Manchester United are looking for new signings and Fabrizio Romano has said both United and Liverpool are considering signing the same player.

The Red Devils are in for a big summer of change as INEOS implement their ways of working at the club, on and off the field.

Drastic changes have already been made to the non-footballing staff, while the expectation now is that money will be spent on new transfers.

Of course, no decision has been made on Erik ten Hag’s future just yet. But that doesn’t mean transfer targets aren’t being drawn up.

And according to Fabrizio Romano, Sporting Lisbon defender, Goncalo Inacio, is a player United are seriously considering going for.

Manchester United and Liverpool both in contact over Goncalo Inacio

Speaking for GiveMeSport on the potential to signing Inacio this summer, Romano suggested United know full well how a a deal would work for Inacio.

“I would not say main target at this point, because obviously, before you decide the manager, you can’t have a real main target,” Romano said.

“They had some contacts and conversations about Goncalo Inacio, they’ve been scouting him, Man United and Liverpool, both clubs.

“They are informed about how his release clause works, it’s 60 million euros (£51m), so they know everything about Inacio and the possibility to bring him in.”

INEOS need a big first signing

Fans are still a touch sceptical about Jim Ratcliffe and what the club is going to look like under his stewardship.

But Ratcliffe and INEOS can easy any of those tensions among supporters by making big moves in the market and landing a player like Inacio would be a good start.

The fact Liverpool are also in for him gives United the chance to see off one of their big rivals as well.

At £51m, the release-clause isn’t the biggest in the world either and there’s a real chance for United to lay down an early marker here.

United fans, then, will want to see this deal – or another similar – done and dusted.
