Report: Ipswich now eyeing move for player released by Tottenham this week, Jose Mourinho says he's 'amazing'

Ipswich Town are eyeing a move for a player who was released by Tottenham Hotspur this week, according to a recent report.

The Tractor Boys are preparing for life in the Premier League after securing automatic promotion from the Championship.

Kieran McKenna penned a new four-year deal, thus ending speculation that he could move on to Chelsea or Manchester United, so there is great optimism around Portman Road ahead of the coming season.

Though, it’s evident that they’ll need a number of additions and with that said, they’re reportedly targeting a former Tottenham defender.

Ipswich eyeing Japhet Tanganga

According to The Mirror (page 70), Ipswich Town are eyeing a move for Japhet Tanganga, who was released by Tottenham this week.

The 25-year-old endured an underwhelming spell at Bundesliga outfit Augsburg last term before finding some form in the Championship with Millwall from January onwards.

The Lions are keen to make his loan deal a permanent one, though, Tanganga is taking his time to consider all options before deciding his next move.

He is set to become a free agent on July 1st, so there won’t be any imminent movement until then.

Ipswich also face competition from Luton Town for his signature.

Jose Mourinho was a big fan of Japhet Tanganga

Former Spurs manager Jose Mourinho handed Tanganga his debut against Liverpool and made no secret of how impressed he was.

“The kid has reason to be very happy with his level, not with the result obviously, but with his first game in the Premier League,” Mourinho said.

“It couldn’t be a bigger one and he did it amazingly.”

The former Real Madrid boss went on to make Tanganga a regular in his squad and evidently was impressed with his skill set.

Tanganga is physically imposing and can operate at full-back or as a central defender, so he’d be a smart addition to McKenna’s squad, particularly on a free transfer.
