Belgian media give their verdict on Leandro Trossard’s performance as he scores again before Euro 2024

Media in Belgium have now been sharing their thoughts on Arsenal winger Leandro Trossard’s latest performance in the lead up to Euro 2024.

Trossard finished the season strongly at Arsenal, managing to get ahead of Gabriel Martinelli in the final months.

And the 29-year-old justified Mikel Arteta’s decision, scoring five goals in Arsenal’s final eight league games, including a vital strike at Old Trafford.

Of course, having ended the season so strongly, it wouldn’t be a surprise if Trossard now went on to flourish at the Euros.

With Manchester City’s Jeremy Doku likely to earn a start on the left, Trossard is seemingly competing with PSV Eindhoven’s Johan Bakayoko on the right.

And having started in Saturday’s 3-0 win against Luxembourg, the Arsenal man certainly didn’t do his chances any harm.

Trossard scored Belgium’s third goal after a Romelu Lukaku double, who now has an incredible 83 goals for his country.

Belgian media praise Arsenal winger Leandro Trossard for scoring after quiet display

Also starting alongside Man City’s Kevin De Bruyne, Belgian outlet HLN noticed that Trossard was consistently cutting in from the right, as he does on the left.

They wrote: “As a right winger, he always squeezed inside. Presented himself well, but actually played a fairly anonymous game. Until his goal – well done.”

Incidentally the same outlet’s live commentary had decided ‘it’s not Trossard’s game’ shortly after he missed a chance four minutes before his goal.

But such is the nature of football, a goal changes everything.

And having finished the season so emphatically as mentioned for Arsenal and now scoring in consecutive games for country, Trossard really does look well-placed for minutes in Germany.

Gabriel Martinelli also nets for Brazil

Incidentally, Martinelli, who Trossard replaced in Arsenal’s starting eleven, also scored for his country last night.

Martinelli’s goal in a 3-2 win for Brazil against Mexico was celebrated by local media, a performance the 22-year-old will hope ignites some better form.

Martinelli was by no means delivering poor performances when replaced by Trossard this season, but was failing to capture the levels he’s shown at Arsenal in the past.

Of course, the Brazilian may fare better were his compatriot Douglas Luiz signed by Arsenal, who he started with against Mexico on Saturday.

And with that in mind, Arsenal have now been told they can sign Luiz for a cut-price this summer.
